José J. Coronas, Member of the Board of Directors
José Coronas is an experienced business executive with strong ties to the health industry, having held leadership positions in an international biotechnology joint venture and a large multinational clinical diagnostics business. He is currently chairman of the board of QBiogene, an international research products company with headquarters in Montreal, Canada.
As president of Johnson & Johnson Clinical Diagnostics, Coronas had overall profit-and-loss accountability for a worldwide business with annual revenues in excess of $500 million and an R&D investment of approximately $100 million. During his tenure as general manager of Clinical Diagnostics, the business experienced over 15 percent compounded growth as well as superior profitability. Coronas is no stranger to business negotiations.
As Vice President and General Manager of Kodak’s Clinical Diagnostics Division, he spearheaded the initiative that resulted in the sale of the business to Johnson & Johnson for over $1 billion.
In addition, he has a broad range of management experience in strategic alliances and collaborations including the formation of Genencor International, where he served as president and CEO of this multinational producer of industrial bio-technology products during its first year of operation. He has also held a wide variety of management positions in both the United States and Europe in such areas as corporate strategic planning, marketing intelligence, product management and industrial engineering.
A native of Cuba, Coronas holds a B. S. in industrial engineering from the University of Miami and an M.B.A. from the Simon Graduate School of Business, University of Rochester. He is a member of the Board of Directors of RTek Medical Systems, DigiQuick Portrait Studios, Inc., St. John Fisher College, Visiting Nurse Service, Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and is chair of the Bishop’s Stewardship Council of the Diocese of Rochester.
